As everyone knows, the Star Wars movies are set to make a return next year with the release of Star Wars: Episode VII. But virtual reality (VR) enthusiasts can take a new trip to George Lucas’ celebrated universe right now with the release of a new VR videogame that lets users tour the iconic Millennium Falcon from the original three movies with the Oculus Rift VR headset.
The experience can be downloaded for free on PC over on the official Oculus VR Share Beta. It is the first project from indie developer Darth Disembowel, who came up with the idea after experiencing several Star Trek-themed projects that let users tour various spacecraft from that universe. Players can tour much of the iconic setting, from the cockpit where pilots Han Solo and Chewbacca usually sit all the way through into the back rooms where R2-D2 can be found.
VR adaptions such as these have proved popular since the release of the Oculus Rift’s first dvelopment kit (DK1) last year. Hopefully the arrival of the second development kit (DK2) this month will provide experiences that let us get even closer to our favorite fictional locations. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR, bringing you the latest on the technology.
