The prospect of virtual pets is yet to be fully explored for virtual reality (VR) videogames. Surely the popular pet simulators of the past few years would only stand to benefit from added immersion provided with the Oculus Rift VR headset? That’s what indie developer Udasan hopes to prove with the release of a new Oculus Rift VR headset compatible title, Nekolus, onto the Oculus VR Share Beta.
Nekolus is currently available to download for free on PC. The title lets players interact with a cat in an aparment setting, allowing them to either throw a ball or wave a foxtail around. Players can also add more than one cat to the title, with each one interacting with the games as they’re played. The experience is set in a simple living room, with cats charging round the environment, climbing sofas and tables as they chase a ball.
Though limited, Nekolus does offer a taste of what we might be able to expect from the genre in the future. Could see a Nintendogs-style title arrive on the Oculus Rift? VRFocus will continue to follow the technology, reporting on each and every experience in development for it and bringing you the latest.
