Guillermo del Toro’s Production Company, GameFace & More Confirmed for VRLA
Last week VRFocus reported on the announcement of the next Virtual Reality Los Angeles (VRLA) Meetup for the virtual reality (VR) community. At the time it was confirmed that the event would take place on 16th August 2014 at New Deal Studios, with a handful of exhibitors including Jaunt and Senza Peso developer Kite & Lightning also announced. Now the event’s organisers have confirmed an expansive list of new attendees for the event.
Perhaps one of the most exciting additions to the exhibitor line-up is Mirada, the production company run by Pacific Rim and Pan’s Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro. The studio will be showing off one of the first short films shot using a Jaunt camera, named Invisible Den. You may recall that a VR experience based on Pacific Rim recently made headlines at the 2014 San Diego Cominc-Con (SDDC).
Also attending is GameFace Labs, showing off the latest prototype of is GameFace wireless Android-based head-mounted display (HMD). Though not confirmed, this is likely to be the MK.V version of the kit that was revealed during E3 2014, complete with a redesign and 2.5K display panel. Last month VRFocus revealed the user interface (UI) for the device.
The list doesn’t stop there. Local VR studio Wemo Labs will also be there to talk about its most recent work as will Spacewalk Otherworld Interactive, showing off a twin stick shooter running on the Oculus Rift VR HMD’s second development kit (DK2). Finally, several of the titles created during the recent Orange County Virtual Reality (OCVR) hackathon will be on display at the event.
