Endnight Games’ The Forest has already provided its first major update since launching an Early Access version on Steam at the end of May 2014. This week sees the launch of its second big patch, including some significant updates that help bring the virtual reality (VR) compatible title ever closer to its full release later down the line. Also included in the update are the usual range of bug fixes and tweaks.
Headlining the version 0.03 update is a new no enemies mode. The Forest is a first-person survival title in which players defend their settlements from monsters having survived a plane crash that has left them stranded. This new mode will allow players to take on the title’s crafting and resource gathering elements at a more relaxed pace and appreciate its other elements without fear of being attacked.
Also teased is a ‘surprise item’ added to the plane that players find themselves on at the start of the experience. The player avatar also now includes a head, with held items correctly casting shadows. Other incremental updates see improvements to the title’s lightning, textures wildlife behavior and more. Bug fixes include addressing issues with collision and visual glitches.
The Forest is due to receive support for the Oculus Rift VR headset during its development, although it’s still not clear when that specific update will arrive. VRFocus will continue to follow the title’s development going forward, reporting back with any more news and updates.
