Kite & Lightning, the developer behind such virtual reality (VR) experiences as a VR recreation of Batman’s Batcave, has released its latest unique project. The experience , named Senza Peso, comes in two parts, the first being a ‘musically-rich’ mini opera that can be watched online. After viewing the 10 minute video, users can then strap on the Oculus Rift VR headset and visit the experience’s fantasy setting for themselves.
This is the developer’s first project to use Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4 as opposed to the Unity engine. Players journey through different realms that depict a journey through the afterlife. The short film was made over the course of five years, only reaching completion two months ago. Once the film was finished, the VR experience was great in the space of eight weeks using the same assets and music. The developer also revealed that it would be releasing some of the realms it has created onto the Unreal Engine 4 marketplace.
