Developed with Unreal Engine 4 and boasting an exciting post-apocalyptic premise, The Hum holds a lot of promise as a virtual reality (VR) compatible videogame right now. Little has been revealed about the first-person experience since its reveal on Steam Greenlight a number of weeks ago, although it did manage to surpass that campaign in a relatively short amount of time. We can expect an update in August 2014, however, as the title is heading to Gamescom in Germany.
“After some days of paperwork and bureaucracy, I’m so glad to announce that we will on the Gamescom 2014, which is being happening at Cologne on august,[sic]” developer Ariel Arias wrote on his blog for the title.
“It’s a long trip from Argentina to Germany, but we cannot just miss the famous german beer. Oh and of course, we will be bringing there a special build of The Hum with Oculus Rift, exactly the same that we are planning to release in the next months.”
The Hum casts players as the survivor of an alien invasion on Earth. Players must hide from enemies as they discover new abilities and explore the world post-invasion. The title is looking to release in the final quarter of 2014 with support and a ‘strong focus’ on the Oculus Rift VR headset. Gamescom runs from 13th – 17th August 2014. VRFocus will continue to follow The Hum‘s progress and report back with any more updates.
