First Look at Technolust’s Cyberpunk Arcade Released
Indie developer Iris VR has provided a first look at a new area from the upcoming sci-fi virtual reality (VR) videogame, Technolust. The arcade is just one of a number of new areas that became possible after the title successfully passed its Kickstarter campaign goal of $30,000 CAD. The area will serve as both as a cool down spot for players, allowing them to interact with a variety of machines, as well as advance the title’s story.
According to developer Blair Renaud, the arcade environment is where players will ‘meet your beautiful and dangerous contact in the resistance’. Technolust‘s story sees players join this resistance against corporations that have essentially taken control of the title’s cyberpunk city by owning key technologies such as cheap 3D printing and immersive VR. As the video below shows, players can tour the area and look at retro arcade machines featuring the likes of Mortal Kombat II and Joust.
Kickstarter backers that reached the Arcade Hero funding tier will also have their own custom arcade machines placed in this area. These machines will contain within them a full VR experience dedicated to the backer. These are described as ‘a playerable shrine for the player to explore’. The area will also contain the title’s first 3D photoscanned assets, which were unlocked in a Kickstarter stretch goal.
Technolust is aiming to release in September 2014 for PC, Mac and Linux with full support for the Oculus Rift VR headset. The developer also revealed that it had been speaking to various companies about added support for the title, including the Project Morpheus VR headset on PlayStation 4. VRFocus will continue to follow the title and report back with any more updates.
