There seems to be an overwhelming amount of horror experiences coming to virtual reality (VR) platforms in the future. It’s encouraging to see a genre that so recently seemed to be on life support thriving again within this community, though a little more vairety would certainly be appreciated. That said, Hill of Darkness from Bloompix Studios certainly seems to be one of the most promising VR horror projects for the Oculus Rift, and it has just received a demo.
A trial version of the first-person experience can now be found over on the official Oculus VR Share beta for PC. No mention has been made of possible Mac and Linux versions of the title. Hill of Darkness is a first-person exploration title developed in Unity. In it, players awaken in an abandoned mansion at night. They’re tasked with exploring the setting and uncovering the story behind the deserted building, facing a grim atmosphere as they progress.
Early impressions of the title suggest a great deal of care and attention has gone into its development, especially in the acoustic soundtrack that captures a sense of isolation and hopelessness also found in works on title such as The Last of Us. It’s not yet clear when the title might see a full release. VRFocus will continue to follow the progress of any and all VR experience, bringing you the latest updates.
