ANTVR has today announced that renowned Stanford University professor Shoucheng Zhang has joined the development team. The award-winning physicist joins ANTVR as chief scientist.
Professor Zhang is a recognised pioneer in his field, having been the recipient of many international prizes including the high honour of the Dirac Medal from the International Centre for Theoretical Physics for his part in the research on a novel type of matter known as a “topological insulator.”
Professor Zhang speaks openly about the appointment: “Recently I met Qin Zheng and the ANTVR team in Beijing to try out their ANTVR KIT prototype, and I was very impressed – so impressed in fact that I decided to join the team. I think the open-source approach and universal compatibility of the KIT is a great way to bring VR to consumers. And I also see great potential in the company beyond this product, because they’re working on more fundamental and novel technology for the virtual reality industry. So I’m very happy to be part of this promising startup and look forward to helping build a great company with the team!”
Professor Zhang’s employment at ANTVR is immediate. ANTVR is currently undergoing a Kickstarter campaign which has already achieved it’s funding goal and is due to end next week. VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on ANTVR and their hardware projects.
