ADR1FT Dev Gets Oculus Rift DK2 Early

Next month sees the launch of the much anticipated second development kit for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset dubbed DK2. It’s a moment that developers and VR enthusiasts have been waiting for, having been announced in March 2014 and rumoured for months on end before then. But not every developer has to wait so long. In fact, ADR1FT team Three One Zero already has their kit in its offices.

The developer recently revealed as much by posting an image of the DK2 delivery box online. It did so via an Instagram image that has since been removed from the site, but can still be seen below. Oculus VR has in the past said that ‘key developers’ had been receiving early DK2 units ahead of everyone else; is Three One Zero one of the lucky team to fall under this banner?

The Oculus Rift DK2 features a range of improvements over its predecessor, including a 1080p OLED screen allowing for low latency head-tracking and a user-facing camera that tracks positional LEDs for in-game positional tracking. It’s set to help immensely with issues of simulator sickness that plagued the original development kit and pave the way for the company’s first consumer model, CV1.

Expect to see many more developers announcing the arrival of their DK2s in the coming weeks before units finally start arriving with those of us that pre-ordered in the first few months. VRFocus will continue to follow both Oculus VR and its Oculus Rift, bringing you all the latest on its development.
