Indie developer Thotwise Games has launched a Steam Greenlight campaign for a new virtual reality (VR) compatible first-person horror title named The Hum. It hopes to secure enough positive votes to go on sale on Valve’s digital store come full release. The PC and Mac title (Linux version TBC) is being developed using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4 and features a ‘strong focus’ on support for the Oculus Rift VR headset.
The Hum boast a single-player campaign that focuses on story, gameplay and atmosphere. The title casts players as a survivor of a recent and sudden alien invasion that has ruined much of the planet. The protagonist has been hiding from the attackers for a number of months before starting to wake up with new memories and abilities. Players must avoid enemies using stealth mechanics, making sure that they aren’t abducted as they explore the environment. A gameplay teaser showing the title in action can be seen below.
The Hum is hoping to release on the fourth quarter of 2014. It’s not clear if the title will be heading straight for release of perhaps also see a crowd funding campaign like Kickstarter to raise money. VRFocus will continue to follow the title’s development and report back with all the latest updates.
