Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games has announced that it will finally be launching a combat mode for its virtual reality (VR) compatible space simulation title at the end of the month on 29th May. The mode, entitled Arena Commander, will grant all Kickstarter backers access to two single player options, while multiplayer testers will get their first chance to try the title’s online modes.
The two single player modes were named as ‘Free Flight’ and ‘Vanduul Swarm’, though just how they are played wasn’t detailed. The developer also said that it will start to ‘scale up’ the multiplayer aspect of the title as soon as possible, adding more players onto servers as it becomes more stable and bugs are fixed. A detailed diary scheduling the run up to the launch was also posted in an update, highlighting rigorous playtesting and bug fixing over the next few weeks.
Star Citizen has already launched its Hangar Module in which players can walk around a hub area, complete with Oculus Rift VR headset support. The title’s other modes will also feature this support, though it’s not yet known if that will be included in this release. VRFocus will continue to follow Star Citizen‘s progress and report back with all the latest updates.
