The forthcoming EVE Valkyrie is one of the biggest names in virtual reality (VR) entertainment right now. From it’s humble beginnings as a CCP Games side project to a leading light in the company’s catalogue of software, EVE Valkyrie has become the title that turns heads, both figuratively and literally. This even goes for the team working on the videogame, as Lead Game Designer Christopher Smith tells VRFocus.
“I put that helmet on and said ‘I want to work on this job’.” Offered Smith when VRFocus asked how he came to join CCP Games in January on this year. “Honestly, what made me want to come into this role was I interviewed and I hadn’t used VR before; I put it on and I played the demo. I believe I swore a lot, and it was all positive swearing!”
Smith had previously worked at Certain Affinity, which he suggests gave him a great appreciation of working with multiplayer-orientated videogame titles. This, of course, is a perfect precursor to EVE Valkyrie which, at present, is not intended to feature a single-player component beyond that of a tutorial.
“From that second on I knew I wanted to do this… in my entire career, this is the project I want to do.” Continues Smith. “Talk about your dream project: this is it.”
Smith was one of several members of the EVE Valkyrie team from CCP Games that sat down with VRFocus at EVE Fanfest last week, and we will bring you the full line-up of video interviews in the near future, as well as further hands-on impressions of the highly anticipated videogame.
