A developer by the name of rubixcube6 is working on a recreation of the Atari 2600 classic videogame, Adventure, in virtual reality (VR). The first level from the experience is currently available to download for free on the official Oculus VR forums, with more levels to be added later down the line. The title is compatible with the Oculus Rift VR headset on PC, though there isn’t any mention of possible Mac and Linux versions.
Adventure was originally released in 1979 and is widely considered to be the original entry in the videogame genre of the same name. Players assume control of a small dot exploring the land. Occasionally they are chased by different coloured dragons as they go about their quest, searching for a magical chalice. In this version the player takes a first-person perspective as they search for items.
The title is split into 3 different levels of difficulty, the first being a simplified version of the title missing a few areas and enemies, the second being the full experience and the third being a randomised version with each new playthrough. This VR version has adapted the first level of difficulty for now, though plays to add levels 2 and 3 at a later date.
Adventure VR is compatible with both keyboard and gamepad controls. The developer has revealed that the classic easter egg that displayed the title’s credits would also be included in later releases. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all uses of VR and report back with all the latest.
