Caffeine Heading to Kickstarter After IndieGoGo Failure

Upcoming virtual reality (VR) compatible horror title Caffeine has failed to secure its IndieGoGo funding. Developer Dylan Browne had hoped to raise $80,000 AUD to fund the experience, though ended up raising $3,212. Despite the failure, the developer has confirmed that development on the title will continue, with a new Kickstarter campaign for Caffeine likely to launch ‘within the next day or two’.

Browne also revealed that the funds raised in this initial crowd-funding attempt will go towards an Oculus Rift developer kit first. That should mean the developer is pre-ordering the second developer kit (DK2), which is due to ship in July 2014.

“Thank you to all who have backed my quirky game and even though we did not hit our goal the money will go to good use,” he said, “first off is an Oculus Rift Dev Kit!”

Caffeine is a first-person psychological horror title in which players control a young boy that finds himself stranded on a seemingly abandoned caffeine mining station in a distant solar system. Players explore the enivronment and solve puzzles as they try to uncover what has happened.

Look for the Kickstarter campaign to launch in the near future, then. VRFocus will continue to follow Caffeine and report back with all the latest updates.
