Phil Spencer, Microsoft’s newly-appointed head of Xbox, has revealed that he doesn’t think that virtual reality (VR) is a simple fad. Responding to comments made by former Microsoft Vice President of Game Publishing Ed Fries earlier this that placed doubt on the technology’s future, Spencer dismissed the idea that it would fade out quickly.
“I don’t believe VR is a fad,” Spencer wrote on Twitter. “More exclusives makes sense. F2P will be on XBOX One, works better as IB grows. Ed’s smart.”
Spencer had previously gone on-record at the Game Developers Conference in March 2014, stating that Microsoft had been playing with VR for a ‘while’. The comments followed rumours that the company was developing its own VR headset for use with the Xbox One and Xbox 360 to complete with both the Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus headsets.
Could it be Spencer will usher in a new VR era for Xbox? VRFocus will continue to follow the news and report back with all the latest.
