Indie developers Bradley Adams & Heather Harvey have released a unique multiplayer virtual reality (VR) experience onto the Oculus VR Share Beta. Titled Gorgon VR, the free download offers a taste of the full title in which one player controls the mythical figure Medusa as 1 – 4 human opponents attempt to take her down. This prototype version is available to try for free on the Oculus VR Share Beta and is played with the Oculus Rift headset.
As the page’s description reveals, Gorgon VR makes heavy use of the Oculus Rift’s head-tracking technology. As Medusa players must turn enemy soldiers to stone by staring directly into their eyes and keeping them at bay with a boy. Meanwhile, the soldiers must try to avoid staring at Medusa whle attacking her with swords.
The title is designed to provide bursts of 2 – 5 rounds rather than drawn out matches. Each round ends either when Medusa is dead or all soldiers have been killed or turned to stone. As the title’s website warns, there are a few bugs that players might encounter.
There isn’t a release date for the full version of Gorgon VR just yet. The developers have said that the complete version will offer map building and sharing as well as 3D positional audio. VRFocus will continue to follow the project’s development and report back with all the latest.
