An indie developer going by the name of wiitom2 has released a new driving title onto the official Oculus VR Share Beta. Named College Carnage, the experience is free to download via the official website, which hosts a range of different virtual reality (VR) experiences that are compatible with the Oculus Rift headset. The title is availabe on PC, with no word of possible Mac or Linux versions down the line.
College Carnage is a very simple free-roaming demo in which users are free to drive around an urban environment in a car. The title appears to have no real objective other than to drive around the area and explore, or crash into other objects. The scenery is littered with pop culture references to brands such as McDonalds. Some objects will move when crashed into though others remain static.
As the developer stresses, it’s important to look forward during the title’s loading, as your initial point of view will act as the origin for when the level loads. Other than that, College Carnage is a simple demo for VR enthusiasts to trial. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR and report on any new developments.
