Social networking tool HootSuite has targeted Facebook’s recent acquisition of Oculus Rift makers Oculus VR for its April Fools’ day prank. The company placed a mock advert for HootSuite-Facebook-Oculus-Rift on its desktop application (seen below), complete with an image of the owl logo wearing an Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset dubbed ‘Owlculus’. The accompanying message teases that users can manage their social media in VR.
It’s not the first VR-based joke today. Earlier, Sony UK posted an image of 4K Ultra HD Glasses that came with the message ‘There’s virtual reality and then there’s 4K reality.’
HootSuite is an application that integrates social networks such as Facebook into one spot. It’s not surprising, then, that the company has poked fun at Facebook, which recently announced that it would purhcase Oculus VR for $2 billion USD. There haven’t been any details on how the two might crossover just yet, with both insistant that Oculus VR won’t drastically change its focus. VRFocus will continue to follow all the news surrounding the acquisition and report back with the latest.
