An indie developer has released one of the first entries in the endless runner genre to utilise virtual reality (VR). The experience, titled Mining Mike, can now be downloaded for free via the Oculus VR Share Beta, and is developed by Rift Away. It is currently available for PC and features support for both keyboard and gamepad controls and comes with full support for the Oculus Rift VR headset.
As seen in the video above, Mining Mike is a simple experience similar to many of its endless runner contemporaries. Players control a mine cart that speeds along a straight line, switching between three tracks to avoid obstacles and collect coins as they go. The title displays the distance traveled at the top of the screen, encouraging players to try and beat previous high scores.
Unlike many Oculus Rift titles Mining Mike is played in a third person perspective. Players can also duck to avoid signs and jump over ramps. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all VR projects and bring them to you.
