An indie developer has released a small virtual reality (VR) project online based on the popular Game of Thrones franchise. The developer, named bobjwatts on the official Oculus VR forums, has created the Sky Cells setting, based on the TV adaption of the novels and shared it for all to try out. It is compatible with the Oculus Rift VR headset. The project was created in the developer’s spare time using the Unity engine.
Players can slip on the headset and wonder round the setting for as long as they like. This isn’t the first time that the franchise has been adapted to VR; the TV franchise was officially adapted into an Oculus Rift experience in which users stand in a cage and look out upon the series’ fantasy setting. The experience has been doing the rounds at events such as the South By South West (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas in March.
This unofficial Game of Thrones experience can be downloaded for free. The developer has said that, if it proves popular, then he may well polish the title some more. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all VR experiences and bring them to you.
