Developer E McNeill’s upcoming virtual reality (VR) hacking title, Darknet, has launched its Steam Greenlight campaign. The title hopes to secure enough positive votes from the Steam community to be sold on Valve’s digital storefront at launch. The campaign launches just a few days before McNeill plans to show his title, which is exclusive to the Oculus Rift VR headset, to attendees of PAX East in Boston, Massachusetts on 11th – 13th April 2014 at the show’s Indie Minibooth.
Darknet casts players as a ‘Hollywood Hacker’, tasking them with hacking past firewalls by beating puzzles found in proceduraly generated nodes. In the developer’s own words, it comes strategy with puzzle, action and roguelike experiences. The title is intending to launch day and date with the consumer version of the Oculus Rift, although there isn’t any official date on that launch just yet.
VRFocus recently spoke to E McNeill about the title. He spoke about where the idea for Darknet came from, as well as its success as Ciess, the winner of the 2013 VR Jam. The entire exchange can be found here. VRFocus will continue to follow Darknet and bring you all the latest on its development.
