Another Valve Developer Heads to Oculus VR

Another member of the Valve team has left the company to join Oculus Rift makers Oculus VR. The company’s Aaron Nicholls has followed in the footsteps of Atman Binstock and, more recently, Michael Abrash in heading to the virtual reality (VR) specialists, which was recently announced for acquisition by social network Facebook for $2 billion USD. Nicholls will be joining Abrash at the R&D team in Bellevue.

AaronNicholls_1“It’s been exciting working on VR at #valve,” Nicholls wrote on Twitter, “can’t wait to continue working on the future with Atman, Michael, and the #oculus crew tomorrow.”

The official Oculus Twitter account also offered comment: “We’re thrilled to welcome Aaron Nicholls (@aaronhelloworld) to the team! He’ll be working out of the Bellevue R&D lab with Atman and crew.”

Nicholls’ history stretches back to the early days of the Xbox 360 with Microsoft, where he worked on the likes of Halo 3 and Gears of War. Is this the last high profile appointment that Oculus VR will make? It would certainly seem like its capitalising on any financial backing that Facebook might provide as quickly as possible. VRFocus will continue to follow the company’s progress and report back with all the latest.
