It’s possible that developer kits for Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE) PlayStation 4 virtual reality (VR) headset, Project Morpheus, will ship in June 2014. That is according to a report from Road to VR, which cites a ‘trusted source’ in making the claims about the device that was revealed at last week’s Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco.
According to the outlet, the source’s information comes directly from Sony. Obviously select developers have already spent some time with a Project Morpheus dev kit; CCP Games showed a playable version of EVE Valkyrie running on the device at GDC last week as did Eidos Montreal with the recently-released Thief.
If true, this will mean that kits will be shipping either on or around the time of this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Could it be that Sony will showcase the device at the show, which runs from 10th – 12th June 2014, and then take orders from developers that have taken interest? VRFocus will continue to follow the headset’s development and report back with all the latest.
