A Reddit moderator has apparently confirmed that Valve’s popular puzzle title, Portal 2, will be shown in virtual reality (VR) as the Game Developers Conference (GDC) next week. According to a post, developer Sixense will be showing off the title running on the Oculus Rift VR headset using the company’s own Stem motion controllers.
“Portal 2 (and MakeVR) will be demoed by Sixense at GDC,” the post confirmed. “Portal 2 VR features oculus rift support and full native sixense stem support. Nifty!”
Sixense has previously worked with Portal 2, developing the Portal 2 In Motion downloadable content, which added a new co-operative campaign with support for the Razer Hydra controllers on PC and PlayStation Move controllers on PlayStation 3. The game has seen VR mods in the past, but this is the first time we’ll have seen it in any official capacity.
MakeVR is Sixense’s own VR software that allows users to craft objects in a virtual space. It recently saw its Kickstarter campaign cancelled, although the company is still clearly persisting with its development.
GDC 2014 runs from 17th – 21st March. VRFocus will be on the ground at the event to bring you all the latest on the VR industry.
