Oculus Maximus Cancels Kickstarter, Pledges to Continue Development

Raging Goat LLC has cancelled is Kickstarter campaign for its virtual reality (VR) compatible Gladiator experience, Oculus Maximus. Despite the failure to secure funding for the first-person title, the developer has pledged that it will continue its development. The title uses the Oculus Rift VR headset along with motion controllers like the Razer Hydra and Sixense STEM to replicate Gladiator combat.

OculusMaximus_1Oculus Maximus had hoped to secure $225,000 USD to fund the title’s development. By the time the project was cancelled it had made just $4,702 of that goal with the help of 99 backers. Further stretch goals hoped to add features such as multiplayer for sums like $500,000. The campaign had been running since early February 2014.

However, the developer has said that it will continue with development, a Reddit user has confirmed. A message to project backers titled ‘This is only the beginning’ was issued post-cancellation. Specific plans for how the team will continue with work on Oculus Maximus have not been revealed. VRFocus will continue to track the project’s development and report back with all the latest.
