Microsoft Working on VR Headset for Xbox One, Report Suggests

A new report has surfaced, suggesting that Microsoft is developing its very own virtual reality (VR) headset for use with its Xbox One console. If true, then the device will be going head-to-head with the Oculus Rift VR headset and potentially the rumoured PlayStation 4 VR headset from Sony.

Halo_1The Wall Street Journal cites a source close to Microsoft in claiming that the company is working on its own VR technology. While the headset will reportedly work with the Xbox One, it’s also thought that it will be compatible with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 too.

The report surfaces on the same day that Sony is rumoured to be revealing a VR headset for its Xbox One rival, the PlayStation 4. However, it’s only suggested that Microsoft has begun working on the device, meaning it may be some time before the company is ready to reveal it.

Meanwhile, Sony’s presentation focused on ‘Driving Innovation’ takes place later today at the Game Developers Conference (GDC). VRFocus will be reporting on all the latest from the event and continue to follow all the VR headsets.
