Excitement for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset is building every day. With each passing event and VR demo more and more people are starting to believe in VR. But this is far from the first time that companies have tried to introduce the technology to the public. No one knows this better than Kevin Williams, director of immersive entertainment consultancy, KWP. Williams has a history with VR in a range of sectors, including arcades. VRFocus recently spoke with him about the technology’s history, the Oculus Rift and what the future might look like for VR.
In the video above, Williams gives a brief rundown of VR’s long past, including NASA’s experiments and the Virtuality machines of the 1990’s. He director also gives his opinion on the Oculus Rift, how it might help outside of the videogame industry and what it’s potential success might mean for the market going forward. VRFocus will also be bringing a piece on VR’s history written by Williams himself later on in the week.
