Further rumours of the Sony PlayStation 4 virtual reality (VR) headset have appeared online. Certain developers have apparently confirmed the existence of such a device and have said that it will be unveiled at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, California on 17th – 21st March 2014.
Speaking to Edge, developers that are allegedly ‘familiar with the tech’ revealed that Sony’s device far surpassed the current developer kit for the Oculus Rift VR headset. That said, the Crystal Cove kit, revealed as the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January is reported to close that gap somewhat.
The publication was also told to expect some first party content to appear along with the headset reveal, though not necessarily a new title but perhaps a tech demo instead. It’s thought that the announcement will take place during a GDC presentation on 18th March titled Driving the Future of Innovation at Sony Computer Entertainment.
According to the source, while Sony’s technology is undeniably impressive, the company still has some hurdles to overcome before proving its headset as a viable platform. VRFocus will be at GDC 2014 to bring you all the latest on the PlayStation 4 VR headset and all other VR news.
