An indie developer has released a virtual reality (VR) version of the classic videogame Snake, dubbed 3D Snake, onto the Oculus VR Share Beta. The experience can be downloaded for free on Windows and requires an Oculus Rift VR headset to run properly.
This version of the videogame puts player in the perspective of the snake, which roams around an area gathering points while trying to avoid running into itself or touching the sides of the area. As players eat points, they grow in size, making it harder to dodge themselves. Unlike the original title, this version is set in space where players can effectively fly, instead of being grounded. The Oculus Rift’s head-tracking is used for steering.
The developer, who goes by the username HDelattre, didn’t reveal much about 3D Snake, other than instructions. There’s no word on if it could come to Mac or Linux. The title was developed using the Unity Engine, something that recently saw an upgrade. VRFocus will continue to report any and all Oculus Rift-supported projects.
