Indie Dev Hints at Xbox One Virtual Reality Project

Independent developer Vertigo Games has teased a possible virtual reality (VR) project in development for Microsoft’s Xbox One.The team was recently confirmed to have signed up for Microsoft’s ID@Xbox service, which helps bring indie developer’s games to the latest system. In a follow-up tweet, Vertigo Games suggested that it was the upcoming VR-enabled World of Diving that it would be porting to the console.

Worldofdiving_1“Who’s on the list? #vertigo_games #WorldofDiving,” the post reads, followed with a link to the list of newly added indie devs.

World of Diving is currently in development for the PC and is compatible with the Oculus Rift VR headset. Players explore underwater wildlife and ruins, taking photos as they go.

While it could well be that this is just a version of the experience without VR support, Oculus Rift is one of the big draws of the PC version. Could it be that Microsoft is developing its own VR headset for use with the Xbox One? It certainly wouldn’t come as much of a surprise, given that Sony was recently rumored to be revealing its own VR headset to the PlayStation 4 at next month’s Games Developer Conference.

VRFocus has contacted Vertigo Games for confirmation and is waiting to hear back. We’ll bring you a response of what this means for the Xbox One as soon as we hear it.
