Gravity Studio Working on Oculus Rift Project
Framestore, the visual effects company behind the 2013 blockbuster Gravity, has revealed that it is working on a project for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset. The studio did not reveal any specifics on the project, but did confirm that all would be revealed at the South By South West (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas next month.
The announcement was made via Twitter, where Framestore’s official account posted: “Ahead of our EPIC #OculusRift project going live at #SXSW, we cant stop playing with VR…”
While its possible that this project is videogame-related, it’s more likely that Framestore is using the Oculus Rift in film. It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen the headset used within the medium; Condition One has also been prepping the 360 degree Oculus-supported movie Zero Chance, which received a trailer last week.
The post’s wording suggests that the project could even be released at the festival, which takes place on 7 – 12 March 2014. VRFocus will follow the project’s announcement and report back as it happens.
