New Platform Inception Wants to be Netflix of VR

The app is free to download now.

There are plenty of ways to access immersive content for head-mounted displays (HMDs), whether it’s videogames via Steam, or 360-degree content through services such as Jaunt, Littlstar, NextVR, Hulu and more. Now a new service is available across multiple platforms that wants to become the Netflix of virtual reality (VR), called Inception.

Developed by a talent pool of industry experts including serial entrepreneurs, a Microsoft Executive, visual effects specialists, and the Emmy Award winning producer of “Homeland”, Ran Telem, Inception aims to become a leading destination for immersive content.

Inception will produce its own original content alongside hosting other creators work. For the launch viewers will be able to access experiences such as: Wicked 10th Anniversary Experience for TimeOut London, an interactive music video from Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Encounter the Masterpieces the first in a series made in partnership with the Dali Theatre-Museum, as well as partner channels like Kaleidoscope.

Inception has also partnered with Boiler Room, a community of underground music fans, to create a dedicated channel for the communities live music events.

“At Inception we share the belief that VR is not just the next step in the evolution of TV, it’s a revolution of the entertainment industry,” said Benny Arbel, CEO and Co-founder of Inception. “No longer is the audience just a 3rd party viewer. With Inception’s born-for-VR formats, the viewer is actually the director of  the content. The user is completely immersed in the VR experience and can actually interact with the content and control his or her storyline, making the experience the next best thing to actually being there. Inception’s VR content will completely change the way we experience the world, from music to art and lifestyle.”

The Inception app is available to download now for Android, Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Rift. It’ll be available on iOS in a week, with apps for the HTC Vive and PlayStation VR coming soon.
