SIGGRAPH 2015 Village Talks Line-Up
With Gamescom 2015 in Cologne, Germany, taking the spotlight this week with new announcements and reveals, it’s easy to forget about other events happening around the corner. Next week, the SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques Conference and Exhibition 2015 will be held from the 11th – 13th August, and the VR Village Talks will be an important part for virtual reality (VR) developers and fans.
There will be four VR Village talks going on covering a broad range of topics, held on Tuesday 11th, these are:
- Creating a Sense of Presence: Virtual Reality Creative & Technical Techniques to Immerse an Audience – This talk presents challenges, solutions, and future prospects for spherical image capture and will be hosted by Miles Perkins and Cliff Plumer from Jaunt Studios
- The View From the Ground: Telling Real World Virtual Reality Tales That Evoke Empathic Engagement – This talk is on innovative uses of VR platforms to deliver immersive journalism. Hosted by Nonny de la Pena, Emblematic Group.
- Virtual Reality: Yesterday’s Technology of Tomorrow Here Today! (Almost) – Fantastic worlds of entertainment and new levels of immersive interactive productivity have been right around the corner for virtual reality since its inception 50 years ago. What are the challenges of getting around that corner and what will we find when we get there? Hosted by Mark Mine, Walt Disney Imagineering Research & Development.
- VR: Creating at the Edge – Presenters show one or more case studies that illustrate the power of the VR/AR/immersive medium and convey a vision of its potential impact on our lives. Hosted by Kate McCallum, Producers Guild of America.
The VR Village is brand new for this year’s SIGGRAPH 2015 exhibition, and will be running from 9th -13th August. It will allow attendees to explore the fascinating potential of VR and augmented reality (AR) formats for telling stories, engaging audiences, and powering real–world applications in health, education, design, and gaming.
