Much talk has been made of virtual reality (VR) as a tool for training in various ways. While we still dream of the potential for many different sectors to utilise the technology, a handful of developers are already building early experiences to prove that potential. One such developer is Lab Coat Studios, which has recently released its VR Typing Trainer onto the official Oculus VR Share Beta.
VR Typing Trainer is currently free to download on PC and works with the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD). The title aims to improve players typing speed and accuracy by throwing virtual letters and words at the them. Players must use the Oculus Rift’s head-tracking to locate the letter or word and then type them out with the corresponding keys on the keyboard. A virtual keyboard can also be seen on screen.
As the developer explains, VR Typing Trainer originally won a videogame development jam in June 2014, though the version released here has been refined to some degree. The developer is also considering creating a full final version for the release of the consumer Oculus Rift. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR, reporting back with any further updates.
