Virtual reality (VR) is primed to be a revolutionary tool in the architecture and design industries, with some developers already starting to tap into that potential. One such developer is FestaTech, which has recently released an early version of a simple VR interior planner that lets players customise the look of a room. The software can currently be downloaded for free over on the official Oculus VR Share Beta and is compatible with the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD).

“This is a very basic app that I made for the Wayfair 2014 hackathon,” the developer notes. “It allows you to customize a simple living room by changing the models and textures of a couch, coffee table, end tables, and rugs.” The software, which is currently only available on PC, will be receiving updates with more models and improved textures and lighting, though it’s not clear when such updates might arrive.

Though simple, the experience does provide an idea of what might be possible when larger companies start to embrace VR. That said, with a consumer version of the Oculus Rift still yet to be revealed, it could be some time before that future arrives. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR, reporting back with all the latest updates.
