Though Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) and Microsoft may have hosted press conferences yesterday, Gamescom 2014 officially started today. Expect plenty of trailers for the latest titles at the event, including this new clip for the upcoming Alien: Isolation from The Creative Assembly. The title, which is being shown behind closed doors with Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) support, has received a new CG trailer ahead of his 2014 release.
The trailer follows the title’s protagonist, Amanda Ripley, as she hides from a terrifying Xenomorph alien that hunts her every move. The clip includes several references to the movie franchise on which the title is based, including a glimpse at the motion tracker made famous by Aliens. While the footage isn’t taken from gameplay, plenty can already be seen around the web and even played on the Gamescom show floor. As Ripley, players will have to survive whilst avoiding the enemy.
Alien: Isolation is due out on 7th October on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Although the title is being shown with VR support at Gamescom, integration is yet to be confirmed for the full release on PC or on PlayStation 4 with the Project Morpheus VR headset. VRFocus recently spoke to the title’s developer about the ‘mind blowing’ support for the title and will continue to follow its progress going forward.
