Another completely new virtual reality (VR) experience has made its debut this week. Hitchhiker from indie developer Constantly New Corporation has been released on the official Oculus VR Share Beta will full support for the Oculus Rift VR headset. It can be downloaded for free on either PC or Mac, boasting a sci-fi setting in which players must travel to different planets using different spacecraft.
Hitchhiker is a first-person experience that starts out with players standing on the moon. From there, they must board different spacecraft by standing in front of them as they travel past and being teleported on board. Different craft have different routes, meaning players must observe each one’s path in order to correctly assess how to reach their destination. The Oculus Rift can be used to observe different routes by looking through the bridge of a spacecraft of standing on a planet’s surface.
Hitchhiker is currently available in pre-release form, having already seen a number of updates made to its alpha build. In total players can visit nine different planets with six different routes to travel on. Some planets can even be visited by ‘skydiving’ from the spacecraft. It isn’t clear if the amount of craft and routes will increase with later versions of the title being released.
VRFocus will continue to follow each and every VR videogame, bringing you the latest on their development.
