Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and Silent Hill: Origins developer Climax Studios is already familiar with the PlayStation 4. Earlier this year the team released Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition, updating Housemarque’s original PlayStation 3 title for the new console. In 2013 the developer revealed that it had two PlayStation 4 projects in development, and it looks like the second one could feature support for the Project Morpheus virtual reality (VR) headset.
The company revealed as much in a job listing posted on Twitter a short while back. It stated: “Wow! Currently looking for a Senior Programmer for our #Morpheus project. Info/ apply – firstname.lastname@example.org.” Since then Oculus VR’s developer relations manager Callum Underwood has retweeted the company concerning their attendance at next week’s Develop Conference in Brighton. Could the title also be coming to the Oculus Rift on PC?
Taking a look at Climax Studio’s official site provides some hints as to what this VR title could be. The developer has a concept section showing a total of five new experiences. Three of them, Dark Saga, Mirage and Vagabond have been revealed as tech demos leaving two other options in Americana and an unannounced title. Concept art, as seen below, suggests that Americana will be some form of shooter while screenshots of the unannounced project reveal it to be a horror-themed project.
Is one of these two titles the Project Morpheus project? We likely won’t know for a while; the developer has confirmed that it will be sending Samantha Leung of publisher relations to the Develop Conference on 8th – 10th July 2014, though this is an industry-focused event that doesn’t play host to new reveals of titles. Meanwhile Climax Studios is hiring for a wide range of positions to work on its upcoming projects. VRFocus will continue to follow the developer’s progress going forward and report back with any more updates on its VR title.
