True Player Gear’s Totem headset has been grabbing a fair amount of attention from the gaming community due to it’s widespread compatibility. After a warmly received outing at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) earlier this month, the team has revealed plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign for the head-mounted display (HMD) this summer.
Promising instant virtual reality (VR) experiences on all modern formats with a HDMI output – including PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 – the Totem has the potential to reach much further than it’s competition. That is, of course, as long as True Player Gear can achieve the funding required for mass market manufacturing and distribution. The team have chosen Kickstarter as a means of raising funds, and have stated that the campaign will see a launch at an unspecified date later this summer.
Furthermore, True Player Gear has stated that their long-term plan is to have the Totem headset in player’s hands – or rather on their head – by the end of the year. This is a relatively short development cycle for any peripheral, let alone a HMD. VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest progress from True Player Gear.
