Indie developer Cubicle Ninjas has released a unique new virtual reality (VR) project designed to help users meditate. Named Guided Meditation, the title places players on a relaxing beach to take in some sights. It can be downloaded for free from the official Oculus VR forums on PC, Mac and Linux and features full support for the Oculus Rift VR headset. A trailer for the experience can be seen below.
Guided Meditation simply asks players to relax, sitting on a sunny beach. Palm trees and cliffs surround the player along with a cool blue sea.
“Take a vacation on your lunch break,” reads a brief description of the title. “Relax on the shore while you watch the waves gracefully crashing beside your feet. Take a deep breath of fresh air, as you look up into the clouds. Watch and listen to seagulls flock in the blue sky. And for the first time ever, leave the sunscreen at home.”
This is just one example of VR being used for virtual tourism as opposed to a fleshed out videogame. It’s a section of the industry that many have expressed interest in, though are yet to fully develop into real projects. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all uses of VR and report back with the latest.
