A new downloadable demo has been made available for Oculus Rift users today, as Firelight Technologies have issued a revised edition of the infamous Tuscany demo. Firelight Technologies and GenAudio recently announced a partnership to provide videogame developers seamless integration of the AstoundSound 3D RTI plugin for FMOD Studio, set to be commercially released in the near future, and this new version of the Tuscany demo is intended to be a showcase of the technology’s audio capabilities.
The Tuscany demo created for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset by Oculus VR themselves has become something of a legend. It’s many people’s first step into this new wave of VR and for good reason: it’s a calm, staged world for you to escape to without having to worry about the technology powering it. Exactly what VR is supposed to be. The Tuscany demo has seen many previous revisions, most notably that which was designed to showcase the Razer Hydra. This latest release however, is a special version of Tuscany which showcases GenAudio’s AstoundSound 3D RTI, a positional 3D audio plugin integrated with the FMOD Studio.
AstoundSound 3D RTI is and ‘encode only’ software and does not require custom earphones or decoding hardware. The end user can benefit from a 3D audio experience with a stereo output using any pair of headphones or speakers. AstoundSound is also compatible with multi-channel gaming set-ups by providing elevation without the need for additional speakers.
You can sample AstoundSound 3D RTI for yourself with this brand new revision of the Tuscany demo, available to download from the official Oculus Share website now. VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest additions to the platform.
