Indie developer Crytivo Games has revealed that it is ‘immensely interested’ in support for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset and other such devices for its upcoming planet management title, The Universim. The developer revealed as much on the page for its recently-launched Kickstarter campaign, which hopes to raise $320,000 USD before 24th May 2014 to help fund the development of the PC, Mac and Linux title.
“We are also immensely interested in seeing how something like the Oculus Rift and other VR devices can add a whole new dimension to gameplay,” a section on possible platforms reads. “If the game is successful, we see no reason why we wouldn’t try to shoot for the stars and get the game out on as many platforms as possible for players to enjoy.” The same section also suggests that the team would be interested in possible console versions of the title.
The Universim is described as a ‘next generation Planet Management God Game’. Players start at the Stone Age and begin to help civilisations flourish by influencing their decisions such as what technologies to develop. As the player progresses they’ll move into space exploration and other paths that will introduce new mechanics and even discover new planets.
The Universim is hoping to launch in October 2015. Those interested can back $15 to secure a copy of the title, with a range of other Kickstarter rewards also available leading up to a $10,000 tier with an invite to the title’s launch party among other bonuses. VRFocus will continue to follow The Universim and report back if/when news of VR integration is made official.
