Oculus VR, the company behind the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset, has confirmed that it will be attending this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), running from 10th – 12th June 2014 in Los Angeles. The company revealed the news as it updated its 2014 events schedule, which also confirmed that the technology would be heading to several other events.
E3 is one of the staples in the videogame calender, where platform holders such as Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony reveal big announcements. It won’t be the first year that Oculus VR has attended the event, but hopefully it will bring news of a consumer version of the Rift during the expo, given that the company is aiming for a 2014 release.
Oculus VR has also lined up several pre-E3 events to attend. It was already known that the Rift would be at the South By South West (SXSX) festival in Austin on 8th – 9th March. The company will also hold a presentation named ‘Exploring the Future of Virtual Reality’ on 8th March at the event. Later in the month is the Games Developers Conference (GDC), running from 19th – 21st March, again with its own presentation on 19th March that could reveal a new version of the Rift development kit.
Outside of that, the Rift will be shown at the GPU Technology Conference on 24th – 27th March in San Jose and the consumer-focussed PAX East in Boston on 11th – 13th April. Then on 20th – 22nd May, it will be shown at the ITEC conference in Cologne, Germany.
It’s a busy time for the Oculus Rift and Oculus VR itself, then. The company is expected to have a lot of news throughout the course of the year as it gears up for a conumser launch of the headset. VRFocus will be bringing you all the latest from these events and beyond.
